8:02 Mike Bishop proposes instant solutions with no new spending:
- Repeal the 22% surcharge of the business tax
- He also apparently read the news today, and says that tax cuts work. Cut taxes across the board.
- Tax credit for purchase of new homes.
8:00 Long on hope, short on solutions I'm afraid.
7:55 I guess these individual citizen introductions are a good thing, but I am kind of tired of having every speech by every official bring in "the average joe"
7:53 Health care for everyone is good, I don't see where the money to pay for it is though
7:49 A utility shutoff moratorium is a good thing, and I think they have had enough profits for a few years.
7:47 With costs going up for universities, how are they going to freeze costs?
7:40 Small high schools are now to be encouraged. As a board member at a small school, I am smiling ... until I realize that there's not going to be anything said about declining funding.

7:35 The peanut gallery says "Urban Options anyone?" The harder look at new coal plants is a good thing I think.
7:34 The Michigan Energy Corps - there's an idea!
7:33 Michigan businesses are installing Michigan products in Michigan government buildings. We can apparently do this too
7:29 She says Michigan will pledge to reduce reliance on fossil fuels by 45% by 2020. That's a key to attracting alternative energy businesses to Michigan. Contingent on legislature approval.
7:27 Get me everything you know on Great Lakes Turbine.
7:23 The sound stages and production facilities are huge for long term filmmaking in Michigan.

7:16 Granholm touts all the cutting she's done. It's true, but I'm getting tired of hearing about it.
7:09 You can listen actually live at WDET. The Gov says that things will get better because we have a focused battle plan of fighting for better paying jobs, through education & training and by protecting our people. I was sort of hoping that was happening already.
7:04 After 34 minutes of clapping, I'm ready to declare Michigan the winner and give everyone $1000.
7:00 After some searching I found Michigan Liberal has a chat as does the Freep (with video).
6:45 Somebody told me to chill out, so I won't rant about how I think that we'll be making choices this year that would have been infinitely easier had we made them 2 years ago. At least not here.
The photo is Casa De Espana - Detroit by Derek Farr ( DetroitDerek) and it's the most popular photo for a search on "State of the State" in the Absolute Michigan pool and a photo of Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm who will deliver (I think) her 7th State of the State address tonight.

Can you really blame it all on Granholm? I don't really care for her but at least you always see her out there all the time working. I think part of her job is making sure others are doing their job, in that aspect she has failed..
I've always been told it's the House and Senate that always clash and can never agree on anything so nothing ever gets done
I look at it this way..
These people in politics are in a job that we hired them for. When they campaign to get elected it's basically a job interview.. The winner gets the job.
What happens when you don't do your job at work? You get fired! So all these lazy politicians who have let this State get to this point should be FIRED...
Unfortunately it doesn't work that way, they get to stay until the end of their term. We need to change this and require a yearly review just like any other employee would be subjected to... after all it's only a job
Governor Granholm: One on One Interview

Hey JPW, I certainly DON'T hold the Governor responsible for our current state of affairs. Many, many more people sat on their hands and looked away and deferred a choice to bring us to our current straits.
Whoops. I should add "solely".
