Looks like a cool book, Julie.

I saw a gyrfalcon sighting in the preview to the book.

I came across some cool photos of a gyrfalcon on Presque Isle a few weeks ago. They were taken back in 2004, but they're pretty good shots.

What is likely the last Passenger Pigeon taken in Michigan was shot on 14 September 1898 in Dearborn; the location is approximately where Greenfield Village is today. (From the book, The Birds of Dearborn, An Annotated Checklist, http://www.lulu.com/content/758491)
