   MSU team aims to race solar-fueled car 2,400 miles

   Michigan State University's Solar Car team has been waiting a long time for its day in the sun.

   This summer, it may get 10 of them.

   The team is rushing to finish Brasi-dius, the solar car that members have designed and built themselves, in time for the North American Solar Challenge, a 10-day, 2,400-mile race from Dallas to Calgary, Alberta, that will take place in mid-July.

   And, for a team that's never built a working solar car, a team that, at times, has dropped to only one or two members, just getting to that race would be a victory in its own right.

   "There's a new glimmer of hope for the group," said Arthur Matteson, the team's president and its longest standing member. "People have just started showing up again, and we're really on our way to go to the race."

   ISLAND Benefit Concert with Earthwork Music at Shorts Brewing Company, Bellaire MI

   A Benefit Concert for the Institute for Sustainable Living, Art & Natural Design will be held at Shorts Brewing Company in Bellaire. April 12th, from 7 pm to midnight.

   This is a partnership with Earthwork Music. Musicians include Seth Bernard, May Erlewine, Micah Middaugh (of Breathe Owl Breathe), Darlene, Brandon Foote, Laura Bates, Susan Fawcett, Chris Dorman, Marty Heller, Pat Ivory and more! The $10 cover benefits ISLAND's community programming.

   Year's harvest - via the Metro Times

   From Dumpster diving to chic restaurant kitchens, let us take you around

   We didn't get recipes. We didn't talk to that many experts, sommeliers, gourmands, gourmets or gastronomes. Or send our photographers to take sumptuous spreads of haute cuisine. For this year's Food Issue, we're checking in with the serious enthusiasts and the "lifers."

   We visited the farmers markets, talked to kitchen staff, visited with "freegan" Dumpster divers. We broke bread with suburban dwellers turning to country folkways, asked executive women chefs whether kitchens are as macho as they sound. We even crept into the basement of a Zen temple. And what we found was, um, tasty. As ably demonstrated by our essay from a kitchen vet and former pearl diver, you can't go wrong talking to the people laboring on food's frontiers and frontlines. Enjoy!

   Neighbors will enjoy some of Lansing greenhouse's produce

   The goal for the community greenhouse at Lansing's Hunter Park is simple - produce vegetables and herbs year-round.

   Volunteers were at the greenhouse Tuesday, preparing it for a May 10 grand opening.

   The city's Parks and Recreation Department and the Allen Neighborhood Center collaborated on the project, funded using part of a $100,000 Cool Cities state grant. Construction was completed at the end of 2007, said K'Anna Burton, the center's gardening programs coordinator.

   Time capsule found at old YMCA building - from The Ann Arbor News

   The capsule was sealed in the cornerstone of the old YMCA building on William Street in 1959. Last month, as workers prepared to demolish the building by clearing it of asbestos, they discovered a black marble piece that was discolored and had clear separation from the surrounding pieces.
