And I can tell you, things haven't changed all that much. These disenfranchised people have only been pushed further into the bowels of the the city. As for the Edmund, this event continues to leave an imprint on my life...I remember going down the mariner's chapel when they rang the bell 29 times. I recently had dinner with the gentleman who brought up the bell of the Edmund Fitzgerald. And my husband's cello instructor, George Sopkin who recently passed at age 94, KNEW Edmund Fitzgerald! He, according to George, never got over the sinking of a vessel named after him. And of course I've heard Gordon play it in concert many, many, many times. And every single time I'm amazed at how he takes the audience down with the ship with his story telling. And for those who listen, you realize what great musicians he has backing him Flo and Farlane,
