Michigan Radio reports that Crystal Mountain in Thompsonville, Ski Brule in Iron River and Mount Holly in Southeast Michigan are all celebrating 50 years of skiing and other snowsports. It's a wide-ranging feature that looks at where the industry began and where it is today.
According to the Michigan Snowsports Industries Association, downhill skiing, snowboarding, cross country skiing, snowmobiling and other winter sports account for roughly a third of Michigan's 18 billion dollar tourism industry. The industry is under pressure from Michigan's struggling economy and our equally struggling winter snowfall totals.
