Birmingham-based agency Brogan & Partners is offering one small business in Michigan the tools and support to reinvent and refresh its brand through the Michigan Business Reboot Contest. The contest is a chance for Michigan-based businesses to win a $75,000 marketing and public relations makeover that includes marketing strategy, creative, social media and public relations. The deadline is next Friday (April
and all you have to do to enter is to explain in 250 words or less (or with a video) why your company deserves a reboot.
So much of Michigan's current "brand" is tarnished with the endless stream of cuts and losses that we thought it would be a good idea to ask Brogan's Creative Director Laurie Hix about the assets she thinks Michigan companies should be basing their brands on in 2011:
"Every Michigan's business brand should be based on their competitive differentiator. Of course, that differentiator needs to connect to its target audience, but you can't pander to your audience. Just like a teenager trying to be in the popular group shouldn't try to be something he is not. If it's not based in truth your brand will have no foundation and will crumble. And in today's era of social media you will be called out on it.
So what assets should Michigan companies be basing their brands on? What they excel at and what sets them apart. But admittedly, when you are beaten up like many Michigan businesses feel, sometimes it's hard to step away, look at yourself honestly, peel away the layers and see what makes you different. That is where an agency like ours can help."
