Under Fire: Michigan Republican Party Chair Saul Anuzis

"After you get whacked, you need a clear change in leadership. You need a fresh look. You need that at the national level and you need that at the state level."
-U.S. Rep. Peter Hoekstra in the Grand Rapids Press

Michigan GOP chair Saul AnuzisMichigan Radio's Jack Lessenbery interviews Michigan Republican chairman Saul Anuzis about the "anti-Republican tsunami" and his thoughts on the Republican Party's future in Michigan. In Lessenberry's essay Party Man, he suggests that although being party chair is often like being the manager of a bad baseball team (you tend to get fired), Anuzis is the kind of person that Republicans need to attract to win in Michigan.

In the face of calls for a change of leadership (which began even before the Nov 7 election) Anuzis has launched a campaign to retain his seat and tried to paint the effort to depose him as a John McCain led power play.

In the Michigan blogosphere, Republican Michigander endorses Anuzis (and says he likes Saul's MI GOP blog) while across the aisle at Michigan Liberal, they say "Bring us the head of Saul Anuzis."

    Saul Anuzis,

Why is it your trying to barr Ron Paul from the Republican Debates? Ron Paul won both of the debates according to the polls. Why don't you agree with Ron Paul and ask them to re-open an investigation to the 911 Commissions Report. Most of the country agrees with Ron Paul.

If the Mich. GOP webmail wasn't unaccessable right now I wouldn't have to post this:
Ron Paul is by far the only candidate that can save this country from the ultra facist legislators and remind us of what a true patriot is. Saul, you should be ashamed.

I can't help but wonder if one of the reasons that republicans like Saul are so out of touch is because the contact links for the Michigan GOP (ala http://www.migop.org/contact_us.asp) comes back with "This page can not be found."
Migop.blogs.com seems to have no allowance for input other than Saul's.
I'm reminded of the form letters I get back from my "so-called" representatives, the Levin twins, that politicians are great at talking, and terrible at listening.
"I think Congressman Ron Paul was way off base and doesn’t represent any of the Republican party base," says Saul.
Read to mean, "We've learned nothing by pushing RINOs in 2006, so let's purge ahead and lose 2008."
If Ron Paul no longer represents the Republican party base, it's only because RINOs have taken over.
We've got as "Republican" presidential contenders -
Brownback: who voted for invader amnesty in 2006, and couldn't be bothered to vote against S.220 in the Bennett Amendment
Gingrich: who is excellent at campaigning and bad once elected
Giuliani: who's anti-2nd Amendment, a gay advocate, and has allegations of adultery against him
Hagel: Who's bought into the global warming hoax
Huckabee: With his $6000 wedding registry, who supported numerous tax hikes, and also believes in the warming farce
Hunter: Couldn't be bothered to vote against HR 1592
"Amnesty" McCain: Who designed a bill to reward those who've broken the law the longest, has major temper tantrums, and
thinks that taxpayers should fund baby killing research
Romney: Christian cultist, keen on abortion, keen on homosexuality, and wants guns outlawed - until he changes his mind per the polls
Fred Thompson: Globalist, has an intelligent view of China, but supported the McCain-Feingold incumbant protection bill
Tommy Thompson: Seems associated with medicare impropriety, CMS coverup?
Yes, these are the leftist media's darlings, and favored by the same GOP who would sell out Randy Graf for RINO Kolbe...allow Gov. Ehrlich to fire Robert Smith because of his religious views...were going to allow Sen John Thune to pork out $35. billion of taxpayer money to his friends at DM&E Railroad...were going to let Sen. Grassley grab $50 billion for an indoor rainforest...Sen Stevens and his bridge to nowhere, etc.
Ron Paul, and possibly Gov Jim Gilmore, are the only real Republicans I see running.
Do it the Anuzis way, and two things will happen - disgusted voters will vote third party, and disgusted voters will not bother wasting their time to go to the polls to vote for Frick instead of Frack. Plants can't survive without their roots. Neither will the Republican Party.

It is time for another revolution if we allow a shill like Anuzis to push through the latest Neocon agenda. Can you believe what this guy is trying to do? Eliminate the person who has won by landslides both Republican debates. And why does Anuzis want to do this? Because Paul restated what the 9/11 Commission stated. This guy is frightening and wants to derail our democracy. If the Republican Party is at all smart they need to get goons like Anuzis out of office. NOW!

Anuzis has got to go. He is attempting to break the bedrock of our Constition and society. At a time when Ron Paul is connecting with the American public more than any other candidate Anuzis wants him removed for the process. This man is frightening.

Who is afraid of a good old debate? Anuzis. Have we forgotten democracy and pragmatism?

A McCain led effort to boost him? Maybe so, but Anuzis doesnt resonate very well with the other Republican contenders as well.

Saul Anuzis should resign from his leadership position at the Republican party. He has shown lack of principles and totally un-american tendencies. He is a disability to the republican party. Trying to ban Ron Paul from the debates reflects a dangerous mindset. He seems not to know the US Constitution and never heard of the First Amendment.

Live in Menominee County. I approached the GOP rep here and asked about the GOP requrements and a form to fill out. I actually went to a meeting to see what was going on with the party. I was told that I am a Democrat and they made it quite obvious they do not want me in their party. (I guess they (he and his wife) think they own the local GOP unit. Another man; who has run consistently on the GOP ticket in local elections, is having his check for membership held till "they" decide if he can join. Funny way to win an election. "They" do not like the idea of this individual having friends who are democratic.
I still have not received any information about the basic tenets of the GOP party.
If you have any such info, please send it to me at W5831 Elmwood Road, Menominee MI
    49858 Thank you

You Republicans blame this bubget mess all on the Democrats. You were the ones that forced the SBT to be eliminated. Granholm did not disagree with getting rid of it as long as you had a plan. You didn't have a plan and you created this mess. Now you are using the mess to try to make people believe that the Democrats are no good. You really don't care about the people in this state. In the last election you put Dickless De Vos up there, one of the biggest rip-off artists of our time. ScamWay caused more people to lose their asses than anything else I have ever heard of. He outsourced and he made a killing. Engler left Granholm with a big mess to begin with. In her first four years all you Republicans did was shoot everything she wanted to do down. You never made any efforts to convince the Auto Industry to stay here. You never made any efforts to attract business to this state. What hve you Republicans done that was so great in last few years? Nothing! Your president isn't worth a damn. Bush drove this country right into the ground. Engler left us weak. Any sucesses that Michigan had in the 1990's was because of Clinton and you know it. I understand why rich people vote for you. You only care about rich people. I don't understand why a working person would vote for you. The only working class person I ever saw vote for you is a racist mental case. So that tells me alot about you. We don't need partisan politics. We don't need dishonest rich people that only care about getting re-elected. We need leaders that are only interested in getting as many people as they can to work. The more people you have working, the less money you need for social programs. the more poeple working, the more taxes you will reseive. That is very simple. If you want to fill in a budget gap, why don't you Assholes in the house and senate work without pay until you get the budget balanced. You created the mess. You should pay for it. You people can afford to go without pay. You are all rich anyway.
