Wheatland Music Festival; September 5 - 7

Wheatland Music FestivalThe 35th Annual Wheatland Music Festival will be held September 5-7, 2008 at the 160 acre Wheatland Music Organization (WMO) property near Remus (Mecosta County midway between Big Rapids and Mt. Pleasant). The goal of the WMO is to serve as a resource center for the preservation and presentation of traditional music and arts, an idea that began with the First Wheatland Bluegrass Festival as a benefit for the Mt. Pleasant Food Co-Op, August 24, 1974.

The 2008 festival lineup features nationally known performers like Pine Leaf Boys, Dale Watson, Crooked Still, Cheryl Wheeler, David 'Honeyboy' Edwards, The Cherryholmes Family, The Chicken Chokers, Tim Graves & Cherokee along with Michigan favorites like Earthwork Music, The Ragbirds, Madcat & Kane with Mark Schrock.

Wheatland limits ticket sales to maintain a environment conducive to enjoying the great music, so you need to get weekend tickets in advance. You may purchase online through Monday, August 25 or call 989-967-8561 for availability. You can buy Sunday-only tickets at gate beginning at 8 AM on Sunday, September 7 for $25.

Note: This was edited by Absolute Michigan, because we couldn't figure out what this had to do with Wheatland or music...it was however, quirky enough that we felt compelled to let a but stand.

Michigan State Senator Mark Schauer, State Representative Mike Simpson, State Representative Rick Jones and State Representative Mike Noffs will be donning the drivers gear and taking to the high banks of Springport Motor Speedway in a 10 lap sprint to prove who the fastest legislator is. The Bob Frahm CRC Congressional Challenge race will kick off at 7:30pm at Springport Motor Speedway.

15,000 people can't be wrong. The music is incredible. 2 1/2 stages and pick up/campsite bands seem to be within earshot 24/7. Many food and art vendors. Been camping on the farm since '77.

    HAPPY WHEATLAND

I look forward to Wheatland every year. When Sunday hits I am sad to go. I always meet new people and start new friendships. Between the Music, performers, food and family it makes a great final chapter of the summer. I'm going on my 19th Wheatland and wouldn't miss it for the world! Can't wait for 08!

    Happy Wheatland!

I would like to purchase a 3-day ticket, but I am too late to order on-line. May I purchase at the gate?

I will not have access to my e-mail until Labor Day, as I am riding my bicycle on the DALMAC -- Lansing to Mackinaw.

    Thank you.
