We were camping at Hoffmaster in western Michigan this week, and one morning about 6am while I was sitting at our table, an Owl flew down and landed in a nearby tree. I had my camera out and was lucky to get a picture. I had heard the Owl hooting at 5 am a couple days earlier and was on the lookout for it. I was lucky to get the shot. I have been on the lookout for a Michigan Owl for years.

I can send you a pic, it is not nearly as good as yours but you can pic out the owl if you magnify a little. I think it was a Barred Owl. reat memory!

Owls are early nesters, sitting on eggs in January or February, so there wouldn't have been an active nest nearby. Great shot! To get this close to an owl during the daytime and SEE it is truly fortunate.

Thanks for the great picture!! I was walking in Grand Woods park this morning (6/7/2007) and saw this owl. Your posting identified what type of owl it was for me. Thanks again.
