The AP article Auto industry leaders discuss climate change with Congress reports that the leaders of General Motors, Ford, Toyota, Chrysler and the United Auto Workers union appeared yesterday before the House Energy and Commerce subcommittee seeking means of dealing with carbor emissions. The thrust of their testimony was an agreement to be part of the solution, but that these issues cannot be addressed by the industry alone.
Ford Motor Co. Chief Executive Alan Mulally told the panel of the House Energy and Commerce Committee that the industry needed "government to be our partners, not our adversaries." This was echoed by Toyota North American President Jim Press, who said that the auto industry "has a responsibility to be part of the solution, but these issues cannot be addressed by the industry alone."
