Leland, MI - Nov 1, 2006 - On Thursday, November 2nd, 2006 Leland School will host candidates for state and national office and hundreds of students for the only webcast student mock election and rally in the United States.

At 9:00 AM EST the MichiganLiveEvents.com service in association with Absolute Michigan will broadcast the entire event LIVE over the internet at MichiganLiveEvents.com and Absolute Michigan.

For the past twenty years, northern Michigan's Leland High School government class has been hosting a rally and mock election. Between the first day of school and the day of the election, students in Leland's government class work diligently on completing the project, managing their work through student-directed committees that handle everything from signs and decorations to creating video ads, designing ballots and delivering speeches on behalf of their chosen candidate.

Each year the event has been expanded and improved and this year, in addition to being the statewide headquarters for the National Student/Parent Mock Election, Leland will be the only location to broadcast candidate and student speeches, interviews, student voting and associated hoopla live over the internet. As of this release, candidates including Rep. Dave Camp, Mike Huckleberry, Mike Bouchard, State Sen. Michelle McManus, Antoinette Schippers, State Rep. David Palsrok, Dan Scripps, andhave agreed to attend with Governor Granholm, gubernatorial candidate Dick DeVos and Sen. Debbie Stabenow still considering.

The National Student/Parent Mock Election. The National Student/Parent Mock Election makes students and parents aware of the power of their ballot by actively involving them in a full-fledged campaign and national election. In 2004, the last presidential election year, over 4 million students, parents and teachers participated in all 50 states, Washington, D.C., and 14 countries/territories around the world where Americans have schools. Over 40 million have participated since the project began. The National Student/Parent Mock Election is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization.
