A sampling of Michigan festivals & events for the month of December. As usual, there's no way we'll get them all, so please add links and information about those we've missed (or reviews of ones we have here) in the comments section.
Green Monday: Slow currents and fast winds
A new device designed by scientists at the University of Michigan called the "Vivace" inspired by the way fish swim can generate power from very slow currents and we also look at the inevitability of offshore windmills in Michigan.

Home for the holidays

Boom, Bust, Bailout & Bankruptcy Monday The latest chapter in the ongoing soap opera that is the story of the bailout (or lack thereof) of US auto manufactures brings in such guest stars as former Clinton Treasury Secretary Robert Reich and former Michigan Senator & Transportation Secretary Spence Abraham to answer the of question of why we would bail out Citibank over the auto industry and what bankruptcy could mean for the Big Three.
Photo Friday: Detroit Skyline Sunrise by Jesse Speelman Jesse Speelman is a seventeen year old from the burbs of Detroit who got into photography two years ago. In addition to a lot of live and promotional photos for bands, he has some cool urban exploration shots including a set from the Roosevelt Warehouse which appears in the foreground of this photo and was originally the city of Detroit’s main post office.
First Annual Ohio vs Michigan Wine Clash You've heard of Bud Bowl, right? Well, panels of wine tasters in Ann Arbor and Columbus recently gathered to judge over 60 selected consumer-selected wines from Michigan and Ohio wineries (made with grapes exclusively from Michigan & Ohio vineyards too!). The Michigan Snowsports Industries Association offers a state-wide "Cold is Cool" Fourth Grade Ski & Ride Passport that provides every fourth grader in Michigan free skiing at many downhill and cross country ski areas in Michigan. Includes information on White Gold Cards for adults that is accepted at 23 ski resorts!
Frosty Tuesday: Silver Bells, Falling Snow & Skidding Autos From Silver Bells in the City in Lansing to Michigan's first storm of the 2008-2009 winter, it's clear that if winter isn't here to stay, it won't be long in coming. Here's hoping that Michigan's car companies aren't in for a long, cold winter.

Video Spotlight: Josh Davis Trio - "Working Man's Hymn" Taped at the Mid-Michigan Environmental Action Council (Mid-MEAC) benefit, Absolute Michigan correspondent captured this video of the Josh Davis Trio performing "Working Man's Hymn". Held on Friday, November 7 the event raised nearly $4,000 to keep Mid-MEAC programs going and growing.
The Water Festival in Traverse City - December 12-14 The latest in an ongoing series of Water Festivals offers a chance to experience world-class Michigan musicians, speeches from water luminaries, interactive multimedia projects and presentations, artisan foods and beverages, workshops, visual art, theater and dance, children's activities and connections to campaigns and presenters. The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald edited by Joseph Fulton Joseph Fulton put together this amazing tribute to the 29 men who died in the shipwreck of November 10, 1975 aboard the freighter Edmund Fitzgerald in Lake Superior. It's set to The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald by Gordon Lightfoot, and the video is one of the best I've ever seen on YouTube. I hope you can watch it.
