Michigan History: The Detroit Zoo
Polar bears frolicking in a glass tunnel surrounded by 300,000 gallons of crystal-clear water; kangaroos bouncing about in a simulated Australian Outback; or hundreds of amphibians living in the world’s only amphibian conservation center--a place the Wall Street Journal described as "Disneyland for toads." These are some of the experiences visitors can enjoy at the Detroit Zoo.

Photo Friday: Box Turtle by StormchaserMike
Mike says that box turtles are relatively uncommon. The photo is part of his Cass Lake set. Other sets include outside birds and Josephine the Friendly Squirrel. As you might imagine, Mike also has a number of storm photos (and videos on his YouTube channel)

Get Local in June!
Studies show that spending a dollar at a locally owned business returns 80 cents to the community, that in-state travel by Michiganders is a potent economic driver, and that local food can be every bit as good for the environment as organic. I don't know if there are studies about vacations and health, but I do know that your vacation won't take itself!
