Creative Cities: The Bold Vision of Bill Strickland
Last night at the Creative Cities Summit, author and MacArthur Fellow Bill Strickland delivered one of the boldest and bluntest talks about what can and should be done to re-energize our cities and nation.

Hello from Creative Cities and Detroit
This week we're broadcasting (sort of) live from the Renaissance Center in Detroit and the Creative Cities Summit 2.0. At yesterday's "Unconference" one of the themes that kept coming up was how the stories of Detroit are impacting the city's efforts to re-invent itself as a place to live, work and play. Check out this video and share your thoughts.

Creative Cities: an ecology of hope

Michigan Radio's Northern Arts Series Michigan Radio's Jennifer Guerra recently took a trip to northern lower Michigan to explore the ties between art & community. One of her stops was Chad Pastotnik's Deep Wood Press studio in Mancelona to learn about the centuries old art of letterpress. Also features on Bay Bucks, the Art Farm and Earthworks Music.

The Great Michigan Fire of 1871 While the Chicago Fire of 1871 gets lots of attention, Michigan experienced fires swept across the state in October of 1871, wiping out or endangering Holland, Manistee, Grand Rapids, South Haven and Port Huron doing millions of dollars worth of property damage and killing hundreds.

Enjoy more than 35 tables filled with over 300 domestic wine selections and over 25 tables of select gourmet foods.

Michigan History: A wok down memory lane with La Choy As America began its experiment with Prohibition in the early 1920s, some Michiganians concocted illegal spirits in their bathtubs. However, at least one Detroiter reportedly used his bathtub to grow bean sprouts. From such modest beginnings sprang the Chinese food brand La Choy.

Detroit Shock win third WNBA Championship Last night the Detroit Shock captured their third WNBA crown in 5 years with a 76-60 rout of the San Antonio Silver Stars. Read on for more about the game and photos. Also, there will be a Championship Celebration TODAY (Monday, October 6 2008) at Noon at Campus Martius Park in Detroit!
